A Break In the Action

February 2, 2016

The Insufficient Kitchen brings news of a brief shutdown whilst the cook goes in for minor repairs.

Last Thursday I saw a new doctor, a lovely person whose friendly, upbeat manner cracked a bit upon viewing my left leg. “Goodness!” she ran her fingers over the varicosities. “Doesn’t that hurt?”

“Uh, yeah…I’m worried about the Phlebitis…”

“You need to see a vascular surgeon! That needs to come out! Now, what were you saying about your knee cracking?”

Turning to face the doctor, I bent my knee back and forth. It popped loudly. She palpated my patella gently. “Oh! That’s bursitis! Goodness! That must hurt, too! You need to see the orthopedist!”

Within a day, multiple tests, an x-ray, a visit to the injection clinic, and numerous specialty appointments were scheduled.

While I am no fan of doctor’s offices–or being away from here–I welcome medical treatment certain to bring relief. I’m also delighted to have finally found a compassionate, responsive physician.

So while I could hurriedly throw up a few substandard recipes–gotta keep that content coming!– I’d rather be honest, slow down, and offer only quality work.

I hope to be back by the end of the week, by which time Superbowl mania will have fully engulfed the Bay Area, leaving me one of the few adults in Northern California who is immune to football.
